CHAPTER I – GENERAL PROVISIONS

Article 1 – Background

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has had a significant impact on the academic publishing ecosystem. While AI provides valuable support in activities such as writing assistance, editing, proofreading, and reviewing, inappropriate use of AI may undermine scholarly integrity, originality, and credibility.

This policy is established by Ethnomathica: Journal of Ethnomathematics Studies to regulate the responsible use of AI and ensure that ethical and scientific standards are maintained in scholarly publishing.

Article 2 – Scope

This policy applies to:

• Authors submitting manuscripts to Ethnomathica.
• Editors, reviewers, and editorial team members.
• All stakeholders involved in the publication process.

CHAPTER II – PRINCIPLES AND OBJECTIVES

Article 3 – Principles

The use of AI in the publication process must adhere to the following principles:

1.
Integrity: Manuscripts must reflect the genuine intellectual contribution of the author(s).
2.
Transparency: Any use of AI must be disclosed explicitly.
3.
Accountability: Human oversight is required at all stages of the publication process.
4.
Validity: Research data and findings must be authentic, verifiable, and based on sound methodology.

Article 4 – Objectives

This policy aims to:

1.
Safeguard the originality and ethical standards of published works.
2.
Provide clear guidance for ethical AI usage.
3.
Ensure compliance with international publishing ethics, including COPE and other recognized standards.

CHAPTER III – PROVISIONS FOR AI USAGE

Article 5 – Permitted Uses

AI may be used for:

1.
Proofreading and grammar checking.
2.
Formatting and reference management.
3.
Summarizing literature and supporting research organization.
4.
Supporting data analysis, provided that the methodology and procedures are transparent.

AI usage must be acknowledged in the manuscript, either in the Acknowledgment or Methodology section.

Example: "The authors used ChatGPT for proofreading English grammar. The authors remain fully responsible for the content of the manuscript."

Article 6 – Prohibited Uses

1.
Manuscripts entirely generated by AI without meaningful author contribution.
2.
Concealing AI involvement in manuscript preparation.
3.
Using AI to fabricate, manipulate, or falsify data.

CHAPTER IV – ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Article 7 – Author Responsibilities

1.
Authors must explicitly declare any use of AI in the manuscript.
2.
Authors are responsible for ensuring accuracy, originality, and compliance with ethical standards.
3.
Authors are fully accountable for the content of their manuscript.

Article 8 – Editorial and Reviewer Responsibilities

1.
Editors and reviewers may use AI for tasks such as similarity checks and language assistance.
2.
Editorial decisions must remain under human authority, with AI serving only as a tool.
3.
Editors must reject manuscripts suspected of being fully AI-generated.

CHAPTER V – SANCTIONS AND EVALUATION

Article 9 – Sanctions

1.
Manuscripts may be rejected during the review process.
2.
Published articles may be retracted after publication.
3.
Articles may receive an ethical warning.
4.
Authors who repeatedly violate the policy may be restricted from future submissions.

Article 10 – Evaluation and Review

This policy will be reviewed periodically to account for advances in AI technology and evolving international standards in academic publishing.
