Ethnomathica: Journal of Ethnomathematics Studies

Ethnomathica: Journal of Ethnomathematics Studies focuses on scholarly research that explores the relationship between mathematics, culture, education, and local knowledge systems. The journal promotes ethnomathematics as an interdisciplinary field that examines mathematical ideas, practices, representations, reasoning, and knowledge developed within diverse cultural contexts.
The journal welcomes original and theoretically grounded studies contributing to the advancement of ethnomathematics research and mathematics education. The scope includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

Exploring Local Cultural Studies (Mathematical Ethnography)

This area focuses on the exploration, documentation, interpretation, and analysis of mathematical ideas and practices embedded in local cultures and community traditions. Studies may examine mathematical concepts found in traditional architecture, crafts, weaving, ornaments, traditional games, counting systems, measurement practices, agricultural activities, trading practices, calendars, indigenous technologies, rituals, and other culturally situated activities.

Developing Ethnomathematics-Based Teaching Materials

This area covers research on the design, development, implementation, validation, and evaluation of mathematics teaching and learning materials integrating ethnomathematical knowledge. Studies may include textbooks, modules, worksheets, digital resources, learning media, assessment instruments, instructional models, and educational resources developed from local cultural contexts and mathematical practices.

Contextual Mathematics Learning & Multicultural Pedagogy

This area examines the integration of ethnomathematics into contextual, culturally responsive, and multicultural mathematics education. Studies may investigate culturally situated mathematics learning, culturally responsive pedagogy, multicultural classrooms, local knowledge integration, mathematical literacy, problem solving, mathematical reasoning, teacher practices, student engagement, cultural identity, inclusion, and equity in mathematics education.
